iPhone 5S Features

A new report claims Apple is planning to increase the resolution of a future iPhone model to 1.5 million pixels — double that of the pixel count on the current iPhone 5. It seems that the display on the next iPhone might get an upgrade.

It reported that the iPhone 5S (or iPhone 6) will come with a better resolution and a thinner bezel. The smartphone will have a screen of 1.5 million pixels, compared to nearly 730,000 pixels on iPhone 5. If screen size does not increase (which is unlikely to happen), then the resolution will certainly be doubled from the existing resolution of Apple iPhone 5.

Apple introduced the "Retina display" branding for its screens with the launch of the iPhone 4 in 2010. That handset featured a 3.5-inch display with a resolution of 960 by 640 pixels, double that of its predecessors.

One way to increase the resolution could be to increase the pixel density 1.5 times, resulting in a 1704x960 and 489 pixels per inch (ppi) display.

However, any increase in the resolution would create problems for developers as they would have to rework their applications.

With a change in the screen size that came in with iPhone 5, a change in resolution again after a few months might be disappointing for iPhone app developers.

After adopting a thinner bezel for the iPad mini, it is highly possible that Apple works on a similar strategy with the iPhone 5S as well.

It might be important to note that resolution improvements in the iPhone haven't happened since the company introduced Retina display. While other leading smartphone manufacturers like Samsung and HTC have already surpassed the resolution on the iPhone with devices such as Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One. So it would indeed be a good idea to look at increasing the display resolution for its forthcoming iPhone.

Previous rumours also indicated that the iPhone 5S might be the first iPhone to come in different colours apart from Black and White and might come with a dual LED flash. The phone is known to be powered by the A7 chip, which according to the claims is a quad-core processor, which is capable of clocking speeds to the tunes of 1.2GHz. Other rumoured specs include 2GB of RAM and Power SGX554MP4 GPU.

In addition, other rumors have claimed that the iPhone 6 or the iPhone 5S will have the same display as the iPhone 5, which would go against this new rumor. If so, some people can find unique iphone case more easily like iPhone5 Taktik Extreme Metal Shock Drop Resistance Case.

The anticipated device according to previous reports is slated for production in June and might start shipping in September.

Next iPhone is iPhone 6 or iPhone 5S?

Desperate for hints, some people are also taking the mysterious test device's "iPhone 6,1" development identifier and using it to claim that the next iPhone will be an "iPhone 6" rather than an "iPhone 5S," presumably implying that it will have more dramatic changes than a speed bump.

Sorry, the evidence doesn't support that theory.

The original iPhone was the iPhone 1,1. The iPhone 3G was 1,2. The 3GS was 2,1 and the 4 was 3,1. The 4S was 4,1. Woah, wait a minute! Did you see what they did there? There was a full model jump in those developer identifiers between the 4 and the 4S - because developer IDs aren't tightly tied to the marketing names of devices.

Listen everybody, I know you're all excited for these two handsets. Apple and Samsung are by far the biggest players in the mobile market, and their new devices are likely to dominate 2013. But that isn't going to make them appear any more quickly than they were going to do all along.

If you like smartphones, there's going to be a lot to look forward to over the next few months. CES will be a bit of a teaser, with some oddities like a 6.1in 'phablet' from Huawei. Then we'll have the BlackBerry 10 launch at the end of January, and a ton of new releases at Mobile World Congress in February. Yes, none of those will be the Apple iPhone 5S or Samsung Galaxy S4. But try to keep an open mind, because I suspect some of them will be pretty great.
